Inverted Row Between Chairs

A bodyweight pulling exercise performed using a bar or sturdy broomstick supported between two chairs.

How to do it

  1. Set up a sturdy bar between two heavy chairs.
  2. Lie underneath with your chest directly below the bar.
  3. Grip the bar with an overhand, shoulder-width grip.
  4. Brace your body, keeping a straight line from head to heels.
  5. Pull your chest to the bar, pause, then lower yourself slowly.

Form cues

  • Keep your body straight
  • Squeeze shoulder blades
  • Don't let hips sag
  • Pull to chest, not neck

Common mistakes

  • Allowing hips to drop
  • Flared elbows
  • Not lowering all the way
  • Not squeezing shoulder blades

Breathing

Exhale as you pull up, inhale as you lower down.
