Lying Straight Leg Raise

An exercise to isolate the hip flexors and lower abdominals from a supine position.

How to do it

  1. Lie flat on your back, arms at sides.
  2. Extend legs fully, feet together.
  3. Lift legs straight up to vertical.
  4. Pause briefly at the top.
  5. Lower legs down slowly but don’t touch floor.

Form cues

  • Keep lower back flat
  • Control leg movement
  • Squeeze abs
  • Don’t let heels touch

Common mistakes

  • Arching lower back
  • Using momentum
  • Separation of legs

Breathing

Exhale as you lift legs, inhale as you lower.
